About the Author Dr. Qiliang Cai is a professor and assistant director of the Key Laboratory of Medical Molecular Virology affiliated to Ministry of Education & Ministry of Health, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Fudan University. He is vice chairman of the young scholar branch of Chinese Society for Virology, and serves as the associate editor for Oncology Communications and academic editors for the international journals PLoS One, and Cancer Cell and Microenvironment. His research focuses on the mechanisms of oncogenic herpesvirus-induced tumorigenesis related to microenvironmental hypoxia stress and its potential therapeutic treatment. He has published more than 50 research articles in the field of virology and cancer research. Dr. Zhenghong Yuan is a professor and director of the Key Laboratory of Medical Molecular Virology affiliated to Ministry of Education & Ministry of Health, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Fudan University. He serves as vice chancellor of Fudan University and also the honored chairman of the Medical Virology Society of the Chinese Medial Association. His research focuses on virus-host cell interaction and he has published more than 70 research articles in top international journals. Dr. Ke Lan is a professor and director of State Key Laboratory of Virology, College of Life Science, Wuhan University. He is the associate editors of Journal of Medical Virology and Virologica Sinica, and an editorial board member of Journal of Virology. He is also a council member of the Chinese Society for Virology. His research focuses on two human tumor viruses: KSHV and HBV. Dr. Lan has published more than 80 research articles in this field. Product Description This book offers a state-of-the-art report on recent discoveries concerning viral, bacterial, and parasite infectious cancers. Cancer is one of the most common causes of death and diseases in human populations, and 15%-25% of human cancers in worldwide are considered to result from chronic infection by pathogens. Most oncology textbooks address genetic mutation, but not infectious agents such as viruses, bacteria and parasites. As such this book stimulates further research in the new area between cancers and chronic infection, and discusses the epidemiology and molecular biology of infectious causes of cancers. It also explores the prevention and treatment of infection-related cancers, and brings pathogenic research to the forefront in the never-ending endeavor to understand how pathogens maneuver and negotiate in a complex environment, including the micro/macro- environment of the human host. Further, it highlights the urgent need for a concerted program to develop vaccines and other diagnosis and interventions that will eventually help prevent and treat infectious cancers, and decrease their burden on human populations. It offers graduate students and researchers a comprehensive overview of the infectious causes of cancers.
